Robert Schaefer —
Strategic creative direction at the intersection of contemporary culture, social change, and visual identity.
Perspective
I help brands find direction in a changing world
In times of rapid change, the ability to distinguish lasting significance from temporary noise has become the ultimate creative asset.
With nearly 30 years of experience in branding and design, I work with founders, companies, and creative teams to make sense of these developments and translate them into a clear point of view: what a brand stands for, how it becomes visible, and how it stays relevant without losing its core.
Practice
I turn observation into strategy, identity, and expression
Every project starts with careful observation: of culture, context, audience, and ambition. From there, I develop strategic clarity and translate it into identities, visual systems, and expressions with character.
My work is structured into four core disciplines:
-
I look at cultural signals, market dynamics, visual codes, and audience behaviour to understand what is changing — and what still matters.
Cultural Audits — Market Research — Trend Analysis — AI-Insights —Social Mapping — Workshops
-
I help define the role, relevance, and point of view of a brand, project, or organization.
Brand Positioning — Naming — Verbal Identity — Brand Purpose & Values — Communication Strategy
-
I translate strategy into distinctive identity systems that give brands presence, coherence, and recognition.
Visual Identity Systems — Logo Design —Typography —Imagery & Art Direction — Brand Guidelines
-
I bring identities to life through visual worlds, campaigns, digital concepts, presentations, editorial formats, and brand experiences.
Creative Direction — Campaigns — Digital Experiences — Content Strategy — Brand Consulting
Explorations
Culture in change as a speculative brand world
In independent projects, I follow my interest in the shifts of our present: the images, desires, fears, and codes through which cultural change becomes visible.
Currently: Bergheim. A fictional luxury real estate concept built from Berlin’s club mythology. As a dystopian exaggeration, the project shows how social withdrawal, the desire for safety, gentrification, and cultural longing could be translated into an exclusive brand world.
